Unitrust
Unitrust — The Total Return Distribution Method.
Unitrust, the Total Return Distribution Method, is gaining popularity as a trust distribution approach. Unitrust enables cemeteries to distribute a fixed percentage, typically between 3%-5%, of the annual fair market value of funds within a Perpetual Care Trust, accounting for both income and capital gains.
Rather than focusing solely on income generation, Unitrust shifts the investment objective toward increasing the total value of the trust and generating a higher overall return. The result can be greater annual distributions for cemetery maintenance and care, while continuing to grow the trust principal.
Annual care and maintenance withdrawals can increase by up to 2.3 times by using Unitrust, all while continuing to grow the trust principal
Unitrust is not available in all states. FSI has successfully helped enact Unitrust legislation in Florida and other states.
